This wasn't a scene that wasn't included in the anime, and I wish it had been. At the same time, I'm not sure if it could have gotten across in animation in the simple yet thoughtful way it's presented here. It's a really good insight into a character that doesn't get enough attention imho, and almost made me cry the first time I read it. D:
Kon (the guy holding the monologue) is an artificial soul, with no body of his own. Normally he's kept in the stuffed lion, but now he's tending Ichigo's body while Ichigo in spirit form goes out to presumably kick bad guy ass.
